As I was going to write to you all,
Comrade Savas sent these pictures to us all. This march and rally,
held yesterday the 18th (the date was selected so as to coincide with
the four-hour public sector strike, solidarity with which was one of
the major themes of the march) was initiated by our proposal to a
wide array of left wing forces, including the Kurdish movement.
Around fifteen organisations attended, the Kurdish party only
symbolically present. The statement read in front of the Greek Chief
Consulate in Istanbul (for those of you who know Istanbul, this is
Istiklal Avenue in Pera) was written by our comrades and was very
similar to the statement of DİP itself. After the brief march, the
statement was read by none other than our comrade Levent. Our Greek
comrades and those from other countries who have visited Istanbul
know him very well, of course. And, yes, the EEK banner was there at
the forefront carried by a young worker comrade and very much the
centre of attention of the press! (The white banner in the centre
reads: "Revolt everywhere")
In brief, this was very much a rally
marked by the presence of the CRFI. I was of course there and must
admit that I felt very proud!
Venceremos!
